Context
evaluation
The context evaluation is related to planning
decisions. The justification and reason for the study was evaluated on the basis of the
investigator’s interest in the population and the evidence from the literature.
Decisions were made on what intervention is appropriate and what needs to be
done to bring a positive outcome in the reading level of children with
Dyslexia. As part of the context evaluation, the investigator had to understand
the level of existing reading capabilities in Dyslexic children, and what
interventions can be designed. The information based on this evaluation
assisted the investigator to plan the steps of the whole study.
Context evaluation is the evaluation of the
need, problem, asset, and opportunity within a situation .Input evaluation
assists in the decision-making of how facilities, human resources, and budget
will be determined and constituted to achieve the goal of the education
Assessing Community Needs Using Context Evaluation
The community involved in the
teacher-education service learning project included the university initiating
the project and the local school system. The university was assessed as to its
needs for and capability of carrying out
the service learning project. The university’s college of education offered
both undergraduate and graduate projects of study in teacher preparation. All
of its projects incorporated internship
opportunities or capstone projects in collaboration with K-12 school
professionals and other community
partners. Service learning became part of the
culture at this university. The creation of a new position, the vice chancellor
for service learning, generated a surge of interest in service-learning
projects
and service-learning opportunities on and off
campus. The university had a well established infrastructure for service
learning research activities. University curricula included well-integrated
projects that enable students to spend a
semester or more in a connected series of courses linked to service learning
projects outside the university.
Objectives
●
To define the institutional/
service context - To identify the target population and assess its needs
●
To identify pertinent area assets
and resource opportunities for addressing hearings, the needs
●
To diagnose problems underlying the needs
●
To judge whether goals are
sufficiently responsive to the assessed needs
Methods
By using such methods as survey, document
review, secondary data analysis, hearings, interviews, diagnostic tests, system
analysis, and the Delphi technique.
Relation
to decision making in the change process
●
For deciding on the setting to be
served
●
For defining goals and setting priorities
●
For surfacing and addressing
potential barriers to success
●
For providing assessed needs as a
basis for judging outcomes
